Poem
THE WAY IT IS
by
Maria Theresa Ib
The strongest words are always among the first to
hit the surface: like blood, scream and pain
But in
reality loss is like an accidental cut into skin, a
surprise so sudden pain never discovers the
opportunity to sing
Afterwards it is not blood but the
world that rushes from
me and
the sound as it slides away is not shrill but rather moist
like the palms of starfish opening deep among reeds
