Editor's Notes

Greetings!

This is our six-month anniversary of Literary Potpourri.

For those of you new to the magazine, please see April 2002 Notes & Mission Statement for what my current goals are. I am still working toward those ends, and the first step has been taken:

DON'T MISS THE NEWS - Literary Potpourri is expanding to
A LIMITED EDITION PRINT JOURNAL,
besides remaining a free online ezine.

MAY 2002 ISSUE #6

SHEEHAN, SAUNDERS, FOWLER, CADWALLADER, MORTON

We are gratified by the quality of the submissions we are getting, and hope to see more of the same. We encourage readers to take a little time to sit with the longer pieces: short stories and essays. So often flashes and poetry are quickly read while longer, worthy pieces are not. We hope you enjoy the whole spread. Our magnificent 'Toms' (Tom Saunders and Tom Sheehan) honor us with their reappearances, as well as the multi-talented Andrew H. Morton whose stories are in earlier issues, and presents another essay this month.

The first story I ever read of the incomparable Heather Fowler was "Losing Married Women." I was so relieved to find that it had not been published yet elsewhere, and am proud to have it here.

The magical, kooky, bizarre Gary Gadwallader is back with a piece of magical realism that is perfect counterpoint to our other stories. His work is our constant joy. We love to laugh.

FRENCH, HONEY, HOLLAND, JOBSON

Literary Potpourri keeps the definition of Flash Fiction pretty loose. We include prose poetry, slices of life, short shorts and authentic 'flashing' flashes in this section. As always, we have newcomers mixed among the professionals, and we welcome the work of them all.

COLEMAN

In this potpourri of lit, we welcome back another gorgeous photo essay by Joan Coleman, talented wife of Bill Coleman who is one of the founding staffers of L.P. Don't miss his photography as well as more of hers in Archives.

TURNER, NOVEY, CARDING, SPRING

Our poetry is usually a mix of talents with different styles. We have recurrent poets who delight us and whose work we hope you'll always find in these pages. In fact we love returning authors in all categories. It shows us they like our publication to have their work shown here. Don't be surprised to see adoption papers being drawn up soon.

STAHL

I had the pleasure of doing this month's book review on Maryanne Stahl's new, first published novel, and I can heartily recommend it.

Thank you for your readership. We love hearing from you, so don't hold back your comments. Your criticisms and praise keep us working to make LP a zine you'll come back to again and again. Give us your suggestions, reactions and complaints. We welcome them.

Don't forget to sign up for our 30-second newsletter. (The shortest newsletter on the web!) It will remind you when new material is being published, and you don't want to miss it!

Yours, sincerely,
