Ink Pot Submission Guidelines
Ink Pot has a unique policy of reading and responding to submissions faster than most other venues (please see our Mission Statement.).
We pride ourselves on our excellent turnaround time. We normally read all year round, but you can expect a 6 to 9 month delay between acceptance and publication.
We accept simultaneous submissions, because our turnaround time is fast.
Please do not submit more than once a month in the same category (short story, flash, poetry, creative non-fiction). However, submissions in different categories within the same month are cheerfully accepted. Links to the Guidelines for each category are found at the bottom of this page.
We seek fresh literary work of the highest quality for Ink Pot. Please read past issues to get a feel for what we are looking for.
We do not publish mainstream or genre fiction (romance, sci-fi, fantasy, horror, Christian, children's, etc.). However, we are interested in experimental and "outsider" work, as well as humor, providing it loosely falls within the realm of Literary.
Only two pieces per month, selected from the current issue of Ink Pot, will appear on this website, namely the "Pot de Creme" and "Hot Pot" selections. We
no longer reprint/reproduce the entire print journal on the Internet.
What is "Literary"?
Often too idiosyncratic for commercial venues, it:
~ takes risks
~ explores the maze of human conduct in fresh, intimate ways
~ uses language in complex, beautiful combinations
~ creates characters who enter our mind and remain there forever
~ engages us with our mortality and our humanity
~ transforms ideas into visceral experiences
~ elevates the best in us, enabling a connection to our spiritual and creative natures.
Only unpublished work may be submitted.
"Unpublished" means it has NOT appeared in print, on your personal website or anyone else's website, whether or not you were paid for its appearance.
Online workshop/critique group exposure, however, is not considered "publication."
We will not review any work that does not include:
Name,
Email address,
Postal address,
Short (~ 50 word) third-person biography,
Payment preference (see below).
Ideally, all of the above will either constitute the 'cover' email of your submission, or will appear in the attachment.
If you wish your email address, or the URL of your personal website, to appear in Ink Pot or on this website, include that information within the text of your biography.
We no longer review written works contained within the body of emails.
All manuscripts must be emailed as .doc, .rtf, or .txt attachments. No other formats are acceptable (except for graphic art; see the Photography Guidelines).
Send all submissions to inkpot@veryfast.biz in accordance with the specific requirements for each style of work (links below). They will be routed to the appropriate editors.
Note: Submitting to Ink Pot automatically adds you to the never-sold lists of the 30-second Ink Pot Newsletter, and the Levenger catalogue of "Tools for the serious reader."™

Stipends are paid by your choice of ONE of the following:
