Guidelines For Submissions

INTRODUCING
OUR NEW PRINT LITERARY JOURNAL

We are proud to introduce the beginning of a new era for Lit Pot. We are introducing INK POT, a quarterly PRINT literary journal, and ALL submissions sent to us will be considered first for this new series.

We will no longer anthologize the ezine, effective AFTER Vol. II #3 issue which covers Jul/Aug/Sep of 2003. This final anthology will ship to contributors as stipulated in their contracts.

EXISTING ACCEPTANCES UNDER THE OLD CONTRACT

All existing, as yet unpublished/accepted work shall be published first in Ink Pot and then will be published in the Lit Pot ezine within 90 days thereafter. The 2 Tier acceptance shall commence with acceptances on Sept. 1st, 2003 and thereafter. All old contracts will be automatically converted to the new terms of the new contract, unless the author requests otherwise. Please notify us with questions or changes.

TWO-TIERS OF ACCEPTANCE - PRINT JOURNAL AND/OR EZINE

The 2 Tier acceptance shall commence with acceptances on Sept. 1st, 2003. There are reasons why some pieces of work will be accepted for print, and would not be appropriate for the ezine. For example, we find that long short stories do not do well on the Web, but fare very well in print. Also, certain color graphics on the Web do not translate well to black and white text pages. While Ink Pot will have color covers, it will NOT feature color graphics within the book. So we will pick and choose material accordingly. Most acceptances, however, will appear first in print and then later in the ezine, and the contract with Lit Pot Press, Inc. reflects both rights. If your work is not going to be used in the ezine, we shall release the electronic rights accordingly within 90 days of the the release of the Ink Pot print version.

  • How to Send

Send all submissions to Literary Potpourri at litpot@veryfast.biz They will be routed to appropriate editors and assistant editors for reading.

    We can handle submissions:
  • within the body of emails,
  • attachments of .rtf, .txt or .doc files to emails. Snail mail (which is discouraged) can be sent to: Lit Pot Press, Inc., 3909 Reche Rd. Ste. #132, Fallbrook, CA 92028

  • Now that you know where and how to send stuff, PLEASE finish reading the guidelines!?

  • Frequency of submission

Literary Potpourri has a unique policy of reading and responding to submissions faster than most other venues. We pride ourselves on our excellent turnaround time. We strongly believe that contributors should not have to wait weeks and months, so we read and respond as quickly as possible.

Please read past issues to get a feel for what we are looking for. Please do not send us a rapid succession of submissions, but wait for a few weeks unless you are requested to do otherwise.

  • Genres

Please do not send mainstream or genre fiction. We are a literary journal so we are interested in edgy, creative, literary work. We love humor and magical realism and quasi sci-fi that is not mainstream. We respect new talent as well as established writers.

  • Length

  • Short Stories - We will now take any length short story providing it is not a novella. Long stories will ONLY be considered for print. Shorter short stories will likely make both print and ezine.
  • Flash Fiction - 1,000 word maximum.
  • Poetry - We will now take poetry of any length but are inclined to accept the shorter poem. Our preference is free verse. If you send rhymed poetry, it should be Pushcart material. Send no more than five poems at a time.
  • Essays/Memoirs - We will consider essays on any subject if well written, and carry a fresh point of view, with no word limit, but longer essays may go to print and not make it into the ezine.

  • Payment

    Stipends are paid as follows:

  • For short stories, flash fiction, and essays, a choice of:
  • Cash (Editor's discretion: $5, $10 or $15)
  • Two copies of Ink Pot (in which work appears)
  • "Gift Option" (ONE copy of Ink Pot in which work appears). It's a gift to Lit Pot Press. This helps us cut costs.
  • For poems, the same choice:
Note that multiple poems may be published together or separately and will be paid $5, $10 or $15 each, based on editorial discretion.

  • We no longer accept book reviews.
